‘He’s just a normal boy’: Girl, 6, killed by police after attacking cop with knife, then being subdued by officer
A 6-year-old girl has been killed after a police officer shot and killed her with a knife during a domestic dispute.
Police say they responded to a domestic disturbance call at about 11:40am on Monday in the town of Normani in Northern Arizona.
When officers arrived, the girl ran from them.
“She went into the home, then she ran out into the yard, and the officer was chasing her, and he shot her with the knife,” Normani Police Chief Gary Johnson told reporters.
Police say the girl, who is in critical condition, was shot several times and died at a hospital.
A motive for the incident has not been released.
The girl was a student at the school where she attended for the last few years, but Johnson said it’s not known whether she had a previous relationship with the officer.
The police department has asked the Arizona Department of Public Safety to look into the shooting, Johnson said.
